I couple of years ago when I started to pursue the realm of writing, I didn’t really have a specific area that I was focusing on. I began posting some of my work on Facebook, when an old acquaintance of mine saw my posts and reached out to me. She asked if I would write her mother’s story. I was taken aback because I had never considered writing something like this and was not sure how I could make it work. This incident was a pivotal moment for me because I recognized the meaningful impact my story writing would have on families.
Her mother had passed away and her father was having a difficult time coping with her loss. Although her father lived in another province, I spoke with him over the phone and captured the details and essence about his wife. It was easy for him to open up to me, a stranger, and talk about his beloved partner which he found very therapeutic. He sent me old photographs of his wife along with family photos and shared with me their journey together from the day they first met. It was a poignant love story and I felt honoured to have shared in their life’s journey.
I approached a local printing company and they worked with me to produce a beautiful book with a graceful cover. The family wanted about 25 copies of the book to share with children, grandchildren and other family and close friends. The meaningful purpose of this memoir was that even though some of the grandchildren were born after their grandmother passed away, they now have a story about their grandmother and can learn about her and the strong woman that she was.
Her legacy will live on in their hearts forever!
